Did you know that the 5 and 7 circuit classical labyrinth was based on a spiral?

(This is my first effort drawing a labyrinth on the computer - I learned a few things today)
No I didn't know that! Or if I did, it hadn't sunk into my brain... When I watched the picture change I had one of those bell-ringing moments (more of a dull thud, really) that said "Oh. How simple. Now why didn't I realise that?"

I sort of thought of labyrinths as 'messed with' spirals. First labyrinth I ever walked was spiral on the dunes at Findhorn. On trying out other forms, at first I wasn't very convinced by elaborating spiral into classical or Chartres patterns. Why complicate it? Still considering the many possible answers to that one. Also reminds me of the ripples created when an object is dropped into a pool of water - not a spiral - but for me it somehow connects in to the spiral.
